MPIKA—In a bid to enhance safety and sustainability in the mining sector, Curprite Geoservices Limited (CGL), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, partnered with the Farmers Development Cooperative Union (FDCU) to host a vital training workshop for mining assistants at Mutamba Gold Mine. The event took place from May 9th to May 10th, 2025, in Mpika District, Muchinga Province.

The initiative aimed to equip cooperative miners with essential skills and knowledge, ensuring they operate safely and effectively within the industry.

Mpika District Commissioner David Siame emphasized the significance of mining safety, stating: “Mining safety is not just a regulatory requirement; it’s a moral obligation to protect the lives and well-being of our miners. By prioritizing safety, we can prevent accidents, reduce injuries, and create a healthier work environment, boosting productivity and strengthening the success of our mining operations.”

CGL Finance Manager Lemos Kalwazi reaffirmed the company’s dedication to operating within the legal framework of the sector, ensuring responsible and sustainable growth.

Senior Chief Nkula, board chairperson of Mutamba Gold Mining Company Limited, highlighted the importance of training workshops in empowering local miners with the skills needed to work safely and responsibly.

“Through initiatives like this training workshop, we can empower local miners with the knowledge necessary to operate safely and responsibly. By working together, we can ensure that our mining sector contributes to economic development while safeguarding the health of our people and the environment. Let us continue to build on this momentum and strive for a brighter future for our chiefdom,” he stated.

The workshop underscored the importance of collaboration and responsible mining practices, reinforcing the need for safety, sustainability, and community development in Zambia’s mining sector.
